Check your shortlist of venues against the following pointers to find the most suitable.

• Does the Asian wedding venue offer a room that is large enough to accommodate all your guests comfortably? Don't be tempted to cram people into a too-small space just because you love the decor.
  
• By the same token, don't book a hall that is too big - it will give the impression that half your expected guests have failed to arrive.
  
• Has this Asian wedding venue got the wow factor you're looking for? From the moments guests arrive you want to take their breath away, so how does your venue look from the outside?
  
• How much scope is there to personalise the place to fit your own wedding theme? Can you decorate the room in your chosen colours and style, or is it beautiful enough in its own right and in keeping with your vision?
  
• What other facilities does the venue offer apart from the main function room? Is there a quieter area for older guests to relax in if they find the party too loud, or a room where younger children can be entertained? Some venues operate a creche service which might be useful if a lot of your guests have small children.
  
• Is there a terrace or garden for people to enjoy a breath of fresh air, or somewhere that you could use to greet people as they arrive and offer welcome drinks?
  
• Will the venue undertake to do the catering - and would you want it to? Or would you rather use your own choice of caterers?
  
• Are you looking for a hotel so that guests from further afield can book a room? If this is the case, ask about getting a more favourable room rate.
  
• Is the location right for you? Are you looking for the romance of a historic country manor in rolling countryside or are you more concerned that your guests won't have to travel too far?
  
• Is it an approved venue for holding the wedding ceremony or are you planning to get married elsewhere and move on here for the reception?
  
• Has the venue in question hosted other Asian weddings and are they sensitive to the requirements and traditional values that are important to you?
  
• Is it within the limits of your budget? If it cost more than you want to spend, strike it off your list - overspending from the outset will only cause you problems later.
